I first learned to woodwork with a chisel inherited from our home’s prior owners (we’re still in touch - hi, Don & Mary!). I had a DIY project to do and was bitten by the woodworking bug. In 2022, I left my professional life as a theater maker to become a part-time stay-at-home dad and to launch Wild Parrot Woodworking.

About me

I have explored a variety of styles over the course of my woodworking journey and found myself drawn to a few principles:

  • Bespoke design for unique spaces is especially fun and challenging — little in life is more satisfying than a perfect fit

  • Collaborating closely with clients yields special results

  • I tend toward clean and simple design

  • There’s not a lot of heirloom particle board furniture (handmade hardwood furniture is an investment — in part — because it lasts)

Precision is the name of the game - measure twice, even with cookies!

A Surprising Historical Twist

After starting the business, I learned that woodworking is in my blood - my great grandfather was an expert woodworker and shipbuilder in Birkenhead in the UK. He moved there from Derby in 1911 to find work and settled his family in the area.

Why “Wild Parrot”?

If you are familiar with the east side of Los Angeles, then you’re probably familiar with the distinctive squawk of the red-crowned parrot. In our neighborhood of Sierra Madre, they are a constant fixture and they bring me joy. I want the work I produce to do the same for my clients and their guests — a double take the first time you see something and a feeling of “oh yeah, that’s beautiful and brings me joy.” It’s that simple.
